Support Groups for Carers and Families

Caring for someone with a personality disorder can be emotionally overwhelming. Many carers feel isolated, exhausted, and unsure how to cope with repeated crises, emotional outbursts, or difficult relationship dynamics. Our support groups provide a safe and understanding environment where carers can talk openly, learn from one another, and realise they are not facing these challenges alone.

Why Support Groups Matter

Many carers try to manage extremely complex situations with very little guidance. Friends and relatives may not fully understand what is happening, and professional services often focus primarily on the individual experiencing distress rather than the family members supporting them.

Support groups create a space where carers can speak honestly about their experiences, share ideas, and receive understanding from others who are facing similar situations. For many people, simply hearing “I understand” from someone who has lived through something similar can bring enormous relief.

How the Groups Work

Small and Supportive

Groups are intentionally kept small so that everyone has the opportunity to speak and feel heard. The atmosphere is calm, respectful, and supportive.

Shared Understanding

Everyone in the group is supporting someone with serious emotional difficulties, which means participants quickly recognise that their experiences are not unique.

Learning Through Experience

Participants often learn practical ideas from each other about communication, boundaries, and responding to challenging situations at home.

Confidential and Respectful

We create a space where people can speak openly while maintaining respect and confidentiality for everyone involved.

“Sometimes the most powerful support is simply knowing that you are not alone.”

Who These Groups Are For

Our support groups are designed for parents, partners, siblings, and other family members who are supporting someone experiencing personality disorder difficulties. Many participants join because they feel overwhelmed, confused about how to respond to certain behaviours, or emotionally drained by ongoing crises.

The groups are open to people who want a safe place to talk, learn from others, and build the confidence needed to navigate difficult situations more calmly while also protecting their own wellbeing.
